Botanical & Herbal Wellness

Individualized Botanical Support for Dogs & Cats

Plants have been used to support health and well-being for thousands of years across many cultures. Today, botanical medicine continues to be used as a complementary approach alongside conventional veterinary care to support overall wellness, nutritional health, and quality of life.

At Erik Corona Pet Care, botanical recommendations are carefully individualized for each pet. Rather than using a "one-size-fits-all" approach, every recommendation is developed after reviewing your pet's medical history, current diet, medications, supplements, lifestyle, laboratory findings (when available), and wellness goals.

Our philosophy is to use botanical medicine thoughtfully, responsibly, and in collaboration with your primary veterinarian whenever appropriate. Herbal recommendations are intended to complement, not replace, veterinary diagnosis, treatment, or prescribed therapies.

Our Integrative Botanical Philosophy

Eastern Herbal Medicine

Eastern herbal medicine has been practiced for thousands of years and focuses on restoring balance within the body rather than simply addressing individual symptoms. Botanical formulations are traditionally developed by combining multiple herbs that work together to support the body's natural regulatory processes.

Within Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine (VCHM), herbs may be selected to support:

  • Digestive health

  • Skin and coat wellness

  • Respiratory function

  • Musculoskeletal comfort

  • Emotional balance

  • Healthy aging

  • Urinary health

  • Overall vitality

Formulations are individualized according to the pet's overall pattern of health rather than a single diagnosis alone.

Western Herbalism

Western herbal medicine combines traditional European herbal knowledge with modern scientific research to support health through evidence-informed botanical nutrition.

Many commonly used herbs have been extensively studied for their naturally occurring compounds, including flavonoids, polyphenols, mucilage, essential oils, and antioxidants that may help support normal physiological function.

Western herbal recommendations may be used to support:

  • Healthy gastrointestinal function

  • Skin barrier health

  • Liver support

  • Kidney wellness

  • Cardiovascular health

  • Joint mobility

  • Immune system health

  • Cognitive wellness

  • Healthy inflammatory responses

Each botanical recommendation is selected with consideration of your pet's complete nutritional and medical picture.

Hawaiian Natural Healing

Hawaiian healing traditions emphasize harmony between the individual, nature, and the surrounding environment. Native Hawaiian plants have historically been valued for supporting overall wellness through a holistic approach that recognizes the connection between nutrition, the environment, and quality of life.

When appropriate, botanicals traditionally associated with Hawaiian natural healing may be thoughtfully incorporated into individualized wellness plans. These recommendations are always guided by current safety information, available evidence, and each pet's unique medical history.

This philosophy emphasizes:

  • Whole-body wellness

  • Natural nutritional support

  • Respect for traditional plant knowledge

  • Sustainable botanical practices

  • Individualized care

Why Individualized Formulations Matter

Unlike commercially available herbal supplements that are designed for broad use, individualized botanical formulations are created specifically for your pet.

Recommendations consider numerous factors, including:

  • Species

  • Breed

  • Age

  • Body weight

  • Medical history

  • Current medications

  • Existing supplements

  • Diet and nutritional status

  • Laboratory findings

  • Lifestyle

  • Wellness goals

This individualized approach helps minimize unnecessary ingredients while selecting botanicals that are appropriate for each pet's specific needs.

Botanical Areas of Support

Safety is our highest priority.

Before recommending any botanical product, we carefully evaluate:

  • Current prescription medications

  • Existing supplements

  • Known allergies or sensitivities

  • Medical diagnoses

  • Laboratory findings when available

  • Potential herb-drug interactions

  • Species-specific safety considerations

Certain herbs that are appropriate for one species—or even one individual pet—may not be appropriate for another. This is why individualized consultations are essential.

Collaborative Care

We believe the best outcomes occur through collaboration.

Botanical and nutritional recommendations are intended to work alongside your primary veterinarian's treatment plan whenever appropriate. We are happy to communicate with your veterinary team to help ensure recommendations are coordinated and safe.

Our goal is to support—not replace—the medical care your veterinarian provides.

Please Note

Botanical and herbal consultations provided by Erik Corona Pet Care are educational and nutritional in nature. We do not diagnose disease, prescribe medications, perform veterinary medical services, or replace the care of a licensed veterinarian.

Herbal recommendations are individualized wellness recommendations designed to complement ongoing veterinary care. Pets experiencing acute illness, medical emergencies, or undiagnosed conditions should first be evaluated by their primary veterinarian or a veterinary emergency hospital before beginning any botanical program.
